Australian Cross of Merit
The Australian Cross of Merit is awarded for Meritorious Service above and beyond that which could normally be expected, either for a specific act or exemplary service over a period.
Brigadier Ted Rigby sanctioned this cross in June 1988. Revised regulations for the cross were drafted in 1992 with a National Executive Decision on the 19th October stating that this cross will (generally speaking), be restricted to senior officers who by their continued loyalty and dedication to duty over many years have made an enormous contribution to the Legion of Frontiersmen in Australia. These regulations were never ratified by the State Commands and are mentioned for interest only. For a brief time during the 1970's, the ribbon for this cross was used as a ribbon on the New Zealand Long Service and Efficiency Medal, owing to the unavailability of the correct ribbon from the United Kingdom. Amor Sanders in Sydney produced the Cross. Toye, Kenning & Spencer in the United Kingdom manufacture the ribbon.
A gilt cross 46 mm wide bearing the Legion Mural Crown in the centre. The reverse of the cross is blank. The name, number and rank of the recipient are impressed on the reverse of the cross.
The ribbon is a 40 mm wide, yellow with a central green stripe 3 mm wide.
The post nominal ACM is used in conjunction with this cross. A bar to the cross in denoted by ACM*.
