At High Wood on 16th September. As assistant to the Forward Observation Officer he went into Switch Trench at 7am and spent the entire day keeping the line intact in that area and carrying messages to the visual signalling station behind Crest Trench. This area was under extremely heavy fire all day, and the work carried out by him was especially praiseworthy.
