OBITUARY
264 SAMPSON James Harrold, MID, Pnr, LMSM, LCM
It is with sorrow and deep regret that we record the passing of our comrade and Commandant, Colonel Jim Sampson, Pioneer, and I am sure the sympathy of each and every one of our members goes out to his wife Pat and family.  I have used the word Pioneer deliberately, in preference to other decorations as I know that Jim valued this award very highly among his many others.  The loss of this friend and adisor will be felt by all in the Legion, as his research, fund of knowledge of all matters Legion, was always available to all “on demand”.  The term Legion can be taken in its broadest sence, as the numbers who attended the service in his honour showed the wide coverage of Jim’s activities and the esteem in which he was held by all with whom he came into contact, not only organised associations but friends and neighbours.  His connection with such groups (Bell Block Dairy Co Directors, Bell Block School Committee, 25 Battalion Crete Veterans, RSA, Star Rugby Football Club and others) will leave a mark long to be remembered by all who rubbed shoulders with Jim over the years.   Let his pride in our Legion, pride in the uniform he wore, set an example to all present and future members of our organisation to follow in the footsteps of a great Frontiersman, whose attitude to his fellow man is so aptly expressed in these three words, so well known to all legionaires, God Guard Thee.
