CITATION
Military Medal
Gazetted 7 October 1918, p11842, Rec No 743
For gallantry and devotion to duty while near Wulverghem during April 1917. Sgt Johanson on three separate occasions showed unusual initiative and command of men by leading a special reconnaissance of very difficult ground some 600 yards wide, up to the enemy’s wire in, spite of the fact that the enemy had listening and bombing posts in the neighbourhood. The report he made was of great value. This NCO has previously done good service both in Gallipoli and since the Battalion came to France. He has on all occasions shown resource and coolness under fire.
