NOTES
Born in Invercargill, New Zealand. He was a Private in the Great War of 1914-1918 with the service number of 24/1090. He served in Egypt 1915-1916, Egyptian EF (?) 1916, then Western Europe 1916.  He was awarded the British War Medal and Victory Medal.  He commenced duty on 30 May 1915 and was finally discharged on 1 February 1917.  His brother Allan died in the battle of Armentierres and he was sent to be with him but missed by one day! On settling back in New Zealand he had discovered that his wife had died from the influenza epidemic and his only son died just before he was discharged . He remarried and became a lighthouse keeper until he retired around about 1953 or 54
