BIOGRAPHICAL
Elden Fruen Hook (1896 - 1985), born in Wellington, was a stock cutter upon enlistment with the Wellington Infantry Battalion 17th Reinforcements in May 1916 and served in France and Belgium. In WWII he voluntarily enlisted with the National Military Reserve in Sept 1939, but discharged later that month.  He was member of the Legion of Frontiersman, a voluntary service organisation, and awarded the Long Service & Efficiency Medal in 1945, the Silver Fern in 1963 & the Pioneer Axe in 1966.
