CITATIONMilitary MedalGazetted 17 April 1917, p3700, Rec No 562.At Bois Grenier on the morning of 21st February 1917, during a raid by the 2nd Auckland Batt. a Minnewerfer bursting on the parapet put thisNCO’s mortar out of action. As the fire out of the mortar had to continue for 45 minutes, this NCO, exposing himself to much risk, had todouble across an area which was being heavily shelled to obtain the necessary parts and was thus able to repair his mortar and continuefiring. His behaviour throughout showed great courage.
