Biographical
BAILLIE, JOHN ANDREW, Lieutenant, was born 22 October 1876, son of A J Baillie, RN. He was educated at Douro House School. He was seconded for Service under the Foreign Office; was first in the Indian Police, and then served with the South African Mounted Forces and South African Constabulary, 1900-2, in the Boer War. He was mentioned it Despatches, awarded the two Medals, and was created a Companion of the Distinguished Service Order. Lieutenant Baillie commanded a contingent of his regiment at the Coronation of King Edward VII; served in the Hampshire Royal Horse Artillery, and later with the Royal Horse Artillery. He took part in the European War from 1914-18. He received promotion to Major, Royal Horse Artillery, 1 June 1916; was wounded, mentioned in Despatches. He was married.
